Briefing of Relations between China and Niue

In recent years, relationship between China and Niue develops steadily. In 2004, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabo sent a telegram to Niue PM Young Vivian to convey his sympathy on Niue suffering windstorm. In April, 2006, Premier Wen met with PM Young Vivian during the conference of “China-Pacific Island Countries Economic Development & Cooperation Forum” held in Fiji. In June 2007, Niue PM Young Vivian visited China. On December 12, 2007, Chinese Ambassador to New Zealand Zhang Yuanyuan and Niue PM Young Vivian represent separate governments to sign Joint Communique on Diplomatic Relations between the People’s Republic of China and Niue in Wellington, the capital of New Zealand, declaring that the two countries established diplomatic relations at ambassadorial level.
