1. Bilateral Trade According to the statistics from China Customs, the bilateral trade volume between China and Samoa reached USD11.846m in 2007, down by 8.6% year-on-year, among which, the export to Samoa from China totaled USD11.549m, down by 10.8% year-on-year, and the import from Samoa by China totaled USD297,000, up by 2469% year-on-year.
From Jan. to May in 2008, the bilateral trade volume between China and Samoa reached USD5.01m, up by 72% year-on-year, among which, the export to Samoa from China totaled USD3.9m, up by 36% year-on-year, and the import from Samoa by China totaled USD1.11m, up by 2553% year-on-year.
The exports to Samoa from China are mainly veneers and yarns. The imports from Samoa by China are mainly processors and controllers.
2. Bilateral Investment By the end of 2007, China’s non-financial direct investment in Samoa totaled USD900,000.
Samoa is a world famous offshore financial center. In recent years, the amount of investment in China through Samoa remains the top 10 in the rank of foreign actual investment attracted by China. By 2007, there are 5123 investment projects in China from Samoa, with the actual paid-in capital of USD9.76b.
3. Economic and Technical Cooperation By the end of 2007, Chinese enterprises have accumulatively concluded contracts on contracting of project, labor cooperation and design consultation valued USD57.52m with Samoan enterprises and realized USD57.61m turnover.
