1. Bilateral Trade According to the statistics from China Customs, the bilateral trade volume between China and Tonga reached USD7.36m in 2007, up by 96.1% year-on-year, among which, the export to Tonga from China totaled USD7.321m, up by 95.7% year-on-year, and the import from Tonga by China totaled USD39,000, up by 341% year-on-year.
From Jan. to May in 2008, the bilateral trade volume between China and Tonga reached USD2.23m, down by 4.8% year-on-year, among which, the export to Tonga from China totaled USD2.21m, down by 4.2% year-on-year, and the import from Tonga by China totaled USD20,000, down by 54% year-on-year.
The exports to Tonga from China are mainly mechanical and electrical products, agricultural products and pesticides. The imports from Tonga by China are mainly logs and agricultural products.
2. China’s Investment in Tonga By the end of 2007, China’s non-financial direct investment in Tonga totaled USD7.11m.
3. Economic and Technical Cooperation By the end of 2007, Chinese enterprises have accumulatively concluded contracts on contracting of project, labor cooperation and design consultation valued USD84.94m with Tongan enterprises and realized USD29.73m turnover.
