1. Bilateral Trade According to the statistics from China Customs, the bilateral trade volume between China and Vanuatu reached USD21.346m in 2007, up by 10.2% year-on-year, among which, the export to Vanuatu from China totaled USD20.944m, up by 14.3% year-on-year, and the import from Vanuatu by China totaled USD402,000, down by 61.8% year-on-year.
From Jan. to May in 2008, the bilateral trade volume between China and Vanuatu reached USD12.28m, up by 0.04% year-on-year, among which, the export to Vanuatu from China totaled USD11.92m, down by 2.3% year-on-year, and the import from Vanuatu by China totaled USD360,000, up by 363% year-on-year. The exports to Vanuatu from China are mainly mechanical and electrical products, autos and product oil. The imports from Vanuatu by China are mainly agricultural products.
2. China’s Investment in Vanuatu By the end of 2007, China’s non-financial direct investment in Vanuatu totaled USD2.73m.
3. Economic and Technical Cooperation By the end of 2007, Chinese enterprises have accumulatively concluded contracts on contracting of project, labor cooperation and design consultation valued USD53.52m with Tongan enterprises and realized USD37.14m turnover.
